A hidden objects game where you need to solve how Houdini 'really' died. It has the regular mix of puzzles and hidden objects, that aren't particularly hard but still has an element of challenge to them [I didn't need the hint at all in the game, but did ocassionally sneak a look at the Strategy Guide]. But on top of that you also have to collect ravens and clover which means you need to pay attention to every scene.. The graphics are lovely. There are no voice-overs. The storyline is average - there is one there but it doesn't have you on the edge of your seat. The length of the game was okay - ir wasn't particularly long, but still gave you a few hours of fun. This is a Deluxe game, so it contains a Strategy Guide, but no Bonus Chapter. Definitely one of the better Hidden Object Games around.
Splendid game that brings historical characters such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, world famous for its criminal literature, especially the creation of Sherlock Holmes and Houdini, who was one of the most famous escapist and illusionist in history. In outstanding and immersive atmosphere, perfect music, graphics very well done, with care in every detail, you enter into a "magical" world, to help Houdini's wife. A game full of excellent and different from usual mini games, challenging and very motivating. Do not miss this opportunity of entertainment !1 By the way - don't forget to collect ravens. They are extra hints!
Wow, just finished, couldn't stop til the end! Story line is great, surrounding the demise of Houdini. Not sure how much is fact, but a great story nonetheless. Keeps you guessing and wondering. A few jump-out-at-you moments, but that's part of the fun. Graphics were great, sound was nice and not intrusive. Not a ton of HOGs, but I like it that way. Scenes were not too cluttered and fairly easy to find. Liked to have to combine two items to make new one, though not much of that. Love the integrated guide. Let's you know what to do next, and I did have to use it several times. Diary is good, too, as I started the demo when it first came out & just purchased on the sale, so had forgotten who some of the characters were. Great fun, decent length, terrific story. Definitely a buy!
I liked the previous games in this series and this one didn't let me down! With 3 difficulty modes and a built in SG this is for any level player. Excellent graphics and some fun illusions. The hidden object scenes are interactive and well done but they do have some rather small items to find. The mini games are very unique with a range of difficulty. They are also skippable after a bit. The story line is a lot of fun but voice overs would have been a definite plus. There are some scenes that will make you jump. They did me anyway. I knew with in 5 min. of playing the trial that I was going back to buy.
It took me several hours to play the game. It is an adventure game with some hidden object scenes. The goal of the game is to find out the truth about Houdini's death and reunite the spirits of Houdini and his wife in the afterlife. The graphics in this game were superb. Some may be disappointed by the lack of voice-overs. Also the ghost figures were very one- dimensional, flat and lacked animation. But I didn't mind any of that. I was impressed by how well the story was researched. I knew that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was interested in spirituality and I have read of Arthur Ford. While I do not "buy" the story as factual, it was an interesting take on a fascinating person. There were a lot of magic tricks in this game as well. As in all the Midnight Mystery games - you find ravens in every scene to increase your hints. You can also find 4-leaf clovers in most scenes. There are 70 total, and if you find 40 of them, you unlock an "Unlimited Hidden Object Game" in which you can choose from all the hidden object scenes you encountered in the game, and this time you find everything. Hidden object game lovers should love this feature. There are various puzzles scattered throughout the game, all are skippable. But why skip them? Most are not too difficult, and if you get stuck you can use the handy strategy guide. I did refer to it a few times when I was stuck. Also I loved the hint feature in this game. When you don't know what to do next, click Hint, and it will direct you with arrows to where you need to go next and what item you need to acquire. So consequently I only used the SG when stuck in a puzzle. All in all I thought it was an enjoyable game, with plenty of game play, and with the integrated strategy guide and bonus hidden object games, a great value at the regular SE price.
Played about 50 min of the trial before deciding to buy. I had a game credit to use but even if I hadnt, I would have spent the extra to get it. Loving that the SG is built in even thought this is priced as a SE. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS GAME!
after the first 5 minutes - i bought it - there is no doubt in my mind that this is my kinda game: great graphics - not too many HOS - as i have gotten a bit bored with them - and interesting, actually amazing puzzles ( how DID thurston do that card-trick???) i know how i am going to spend this week-end;-) - it's cold outside anyway hahahahaha - wishing all fishies a great week-end - and good gaming
Unlike other big games, like Mystery case files for good example, Midnight Mysteries never disappoint me! They are only getting better. It seems to me that these are the only games that pay attention on the quality of the story and the gamers experience. You can see that somebody really worked on this game and put some effort in it.
Another great Midnight Mysteries game. Great graphics - very realistic WWI scene (with explosions). Story enthralling. Puzzles challenging but not too difficult. Hidden objects not too difficult to find. Make sure you look for the clovers and raven (for hints) in each scene. Loved it - will be added to the collection.
As with the previous Midnight Mysteries, this one ticks all the boxes - enjoyable and engaging. It is a little dark but the HOG items were easy to spot and interest has been added in describing the item like an 'old fashioned airconditioner' which was a fan. I also like collecting the clovers and ravens along the way. The puzzles were not too difficult and not the usual ones. Perhaps there are too many ghosts to talk to, but I like the interaction and plot enhancement.
