This review is based on the whole game including the bonus. The story which Vast Studios is the developer for this game: You are a detective asked by your boss to investigate a strange fog that has settled in on New Orleans Mardi Gras. In the process it is having some disfiguring affects on the people. In addition, the chief's daughter has gone missing. This game has 6 chapters plus a bonus chapter. No choice in level of difficult (easy or advanced mode). Yes there are some sparkles to this game which usually annoy me however in this game I didn't find them to be overly intrusive so it didn't bother me. This may or may not bother you. It was mentioned in a review about no choice for widescreen. I have a 20 inch monitor and no problem filling my screen. No adjustment needed. You may or may not need to adjust. There is a journal which will help you along the way however no map as there is some traveling back/forth and I found the game to have just enough different places to go to keep it interesting. Also if you get stuck you can click on the hint button and it will tell you whether there is anything to do in that area or not. There's also a strategy guide that comes right with the game which I found very helpful as I'll admit I had to refer to it a couple of times but it got me right back on track with the game. The hidden object scenes: Sometimes you find them in the open, sometimes you have to combine a couple before you can use them, and some are hidden as you have to move things. I found most to be pretty easy to find however a few a little tricky and blended into the scene. The hint however charges up quick. Also quite a few puzzles. I only skipped a few. The skip I also found to charge quick. There's also 20 morphing objects to find "illusions" which opens extras. As for the length of this game? Well I think that depends on your skill level and if your a fast player or take your time. The main game took me somewhere between 4 to 5 hours a
This review is based on the CE trial version, which took me exactly 59 minutes to play. I love this game. The graphics are well done, although they could have been a little less rough in the HOS (hidden object scenes). There are 3 different styles in the HOS: finding objects in the open, combining objects to make a whole before clicking on them, and finding objects in secret places. There are 6 chapters plus the bonus game. There are 20 morphing objects, called "illusions" to be found, which open extras once they have been found. There is voice-over, and a choice of custom or system cursor. There is no choice of normal and advanced mode. You can only play in "sparkle" mode. The HINT and SKIP buttons fill quickly. There is a journal, but no map. Gameplay and puzzles are fun and entertaining. The SG (strategy guide) only showed the part you play in the trial version. This is definitely a "buy" for me.
Haven't bought this yet, but will be buying the ordinary edition the minute it's released. The HO scenes are gorgeous, the sound too, with interesting sound effects that add to the atmosphere. I like the way the objects keep coming, so that some items not listed at first come up after you've found others. This adds interest to fairly easy HO scenes. Love the smashed glass effect when you use hint. The story is easy enough to follow so far, and I actually like the bad guy - which is of course unusual. Haven't found any flaws yet, so I'm looking forward to finishing the story...
I just played the demo and will definitely be buying this game. The visuals are good, the story is fun and there are lots of places to go and things to pick up. This is a H/O adventure game taking place in New Orleans at Mardi Gras. It has a creepy, over the top villain who can summon a bizarre 'blockade'...won't say more, don't want to spoil the fun! I would definitely recommend this, can't wait to play the full version!
This game gets a "big" thumbs up from me! Even just playing the demo version kept my interest the whole time. The graphics are very well done along with mysterious music to give you that ambiance for that "scary feel" and the puzzles are not too difficult but a little challenging at times. I also like looking out for the morphing objects as an extra bonus find. I look forward to playing the whole game soon so thanks Big Fish for another "winner"!
I finished the demo in exactly 50 minutes. I did use SG which is available with demo. I didn't have to use the hint button on the HO's. I liked the graphics, although some reviews said it was "too grainy". I think it was the "fog" that caused this.Once the fog was removed, I thought the graphics were fine. The puzzles were just hard enough not to be frustrating. I usually do not wear headphones during game play as it distracts me. I did listen during demo andclose to the end of demo I removed them, maybe too repetitive. I didn't really notice "sparkles" in the game, must have tuned them out also. As I am writing this review, my game purchase is downloading. Purchased the game as soon as I completed the demo. Happy gaming fishes! Thanks BFG for another great CE game. Keep up the wonderful work. DO NOT STOP! Vallarina
I love how this game mixes up hidden object scenes, adventures and puzzles. With other games, it's often a case of, "geez, NOW what am I looking for in this random junkpile". Masquerade's scenes were tricky but easy enough to complete without a hint, and not around every single corner. There wasn't any need to backtrack to the very beginning of the street; once in the new chapter, the action was kept to the area you were already in. The music was familiar, but pleasant.
A well balanced blend of HOG/Adventure with challenging puzzles all nicely wrapped up in a pleasant package made of a good intro, good music and superb graphics. The HO Scenes are neat, the HOs not too difficult to find, the Hint System is helpful, and navigation is easy. Although most tasks are common to those we see in other games they are good fun nevertheless. I was looking for a CE to complete my Punch Card. There it is. I found it.
Vast Studios seems to be impressed me on every of their game, and it keeps getting better and better. Graphics in this game are not the best but still great! They're several interesting locations to visit. HOG scenes, puzzles and gameplay are easy.... Story is not totally unique but i found it exciting and got me hooked right away! The only downside i will complain is that there's no difficulty setting, so there might be too many sparkles for some. Anyway, it's a really great game worth playing :D
I played the demo and I will buy it. It has everything the fun part , the graphics which are good and a lot of easy puzzles . Wonderful game for me and full of surprises which I love :)
