This game is from Frogwares, which IMHO, is one of the best video game development studios out there. They take their time to get it right, and each of their games in the Holmes franchise does not fail to disappoint. This is not a game for beginners and involves linear logic. You need to pay close attn to the characters and the clues they give. All is not what it seems, and you have to make sure you investigate every scene carefully for all clues (objects) and listen to/interrogate all the speakers. The game takes place throughout London (London Museum, the Tower of London, etc), and is great for a rainy, snowy afternoon. You will find yourself immersed and not able to stop. Unlike "The Awakened", there's no gore, only fantastic graphics and storyline. You won't regret getting this one.
Excellent plot, story development, characters, atmosphere, everything! You immediately delve into the world of Sherlock Homes and Dr. Watson to find the elusive, but brilliant Arsene Lupin. I did manage to solve a good amount of challenges on my own, however I was thankful that the built-in guide didn't completely spoil the problem-solving when I needed it. The guide is perfect for giving you a nudge-wink in the right direction. What I do wish is Big Fish Games should bring more games like this. EXCELLENT GAME!
What a pleasure to play this game. Great story line, superb graphics, excellent array of characters, 360 degree movable, maps, hot spots.....this game had it all. Its a long game with lots of "fillers" which only added to the enjoyment.....fun to do. You probably need a walkthrough(use MaGtRo) since some of the math is bit complicated and also to keep you on tract. I rank this up with the Syberia and Return to Mysterious Island series. I also found the ending surprising. Play this game and have fun.
I don't know where to begin really. I have loved Sherlock Holmes since I was 12, and I had kept my eye on this one for quite a long time. So when it came up as Daily Deal last September, I decided to get it straight away. And boy, am I glad I did! This is a great Large File Adventure game. You, as Holmes, and sometimes Watson or Lestrade, have to figure out Arsene Lupin's clues and try to stop him stealing England's most treasured possessions. There are loads of locations, beautiful environments, tons of characters to interact with, loads of clues and puzzles to solve. I loved it from beginning to end, apart from a few little things I am going to mention below. The good parts: * Music. I am a melomaniac, and music is one of the most important things in a game for me. I can cope with poor graphics, but the sound has to be perfect. And it was. Loads of period violin pieces, I recognised two by Saint-Sa?ns. * Easy controls. I can't understand people who complain here about the controls. This is the first part I always learn about, and I try out different things. You can play this game purely with the mouse. Right click brings up all the in-game menu, like your inventory bag, documents, clues, map etc. You can walk with left click and run with double click. Meerkat stuff. :) * Holmes doesn't wear a ruddy deerstalker, but a top hat, as he would have done in the city. Deerstalker is a country hat. * Graphics are actually good, although the card on our computer can't cope with the max, so I had to use lower settings. No problem, I prefer smooth movement. * Puzzles. Interesting, huge amount of them, clues are always there, you just have to investigate. * Loads of different, beautiful locations, from Baker Street to Buckingham Palace. * Built-in walkthrough. Whenever you got stuck, it was there, and it didn't spoil anything, you could reveal clues one by one. * First and Third Person options. I love First Person, so I was glad to see I wasn't stuck in Third.
English super detective Sherlock Holmes meets French super villain gentleman in a delightful battle of intellect and arrogance. The game is challenging and long adventure game without HOS; it took me many, many hours to finish it. The plot and dialogues are very well written. The voice overs are fun to listen to and the detailed art work of real locations like Tower of London and London?s museums couldn?t be better (even though the game is a large file 3D game and not one of the new games with spectacular cut scenes and real actors). There is a help button which can be very helpful if you stuck in one of many riddles and puzzles or just don?t know what to do next. I recommend this game mostly for advanced players but also for everybody who likes classic Sherlock Holmes stories (or Arsene Lupin books). My compliments to the developers: very well done!
If you liked the Myst series of games, then you will LOVE this game! It is difficult, with a lot of logic required. But 99% of the time once you get it you're like "duh! I should've known that!" It is a VERY long game, which makes it worth double the price of the game. I really hate to buy a game and then two hours later it is over. This one took many days playing several hours a day. BE WARNED: It is NOT like Persian Carpet and Hound of the Baskervilles, both of which I found to be rather mediocre HOGs. This is a large file adventure game, with a LOT of puzzles to figure out. I think that must be why the rating isn't as high as it should be. People buy this game looking for a HOG and an easy casual game, and instead you get a hard adventure game. But, again, if you liked Myst, Riven, etc., then this is right up your alley!
Big fan of HOGs but this is the first adventure that seems to make sense. I know that Watson has to go to the bookstore but I do not know where it is. But I was able to figure it out without too much hair pulling. From there I found the clue and was able to figure out how to tell Holmes what he wanted to know. Success! This seems very well thought out and offers a lot of things to consider and feels like one is really figuring out a mystery. AND today it is $2.99 so BUY it and get into an adventure game that has you living a mystery to solve. I expect to spend some fun time figuring this all out.
After playing such a cerebral game, I think I may be experiencing some brain swelling! Indeed, this Sherlock Holmes game throws everything at you, and then some! Fortunately, a built in guide helps the player every step of the long and tortuous way, and the dialogue also sheds much light on the infamous Arsene Lupin's next nefarious move. I found this game easier to navigate than "Jack the Ripper," and found it much easier to play in third-person-mode. The characters were all delightful, as was the music, which featured some violin chamber works and even some Tchaikovsky! The graphics and voices were perfectly done, and I applaud FROGWARES for its tremendous work! If you want mystery, suspense and intrigue, then buy this game. I'll put it a few notches below SYBERIA, THE TREE OF LIFE, THE DREW SERIES and PARADISE, if only because it is so very cerebral and mentally draining. Nancy Drew doesn't have anything on Sherlock Holmes when it comes to difficulty!
This games was really fun to play, though I will be honest to say I had to use a walkthrough for some parts. =^_^= You really have to look up and down in this game to find clues. There's so much to do and in different locations. It was well thought out and a very enjoyable game to play. (Hope to see it not so "boxy" though next time) Good length of play time ;) Kudos to the creators!
I thought this game was AWESOME. I found it by accident (on the recommended games bar) and tried out the 1 hour trial first. I got sucked in! The mechanics of the game are great (no lagging) and good visual quality too. The storyline is good and I fell in love with the quirkiness of all the characters. I was also frustrated with other adventure games that were impossibly challenging; to me, this game was very challenging yet not impossible -- it just takes a bit more thought. Also, a good buy! You literally get hours and hours and hours of gameplay and play different areas. I hope there is a followup to this game by the same company!
