Played the demo, which seemed quite long, to the point of finding the 2nd of 7 gnomes. The game has 3 levels - I played in casual. The HO scenes are not interactive, and one was repeated during my game play, with some of the same objects to find. It has morphing objects to find - I found 10 of 36 during the demo. The mini games are fun, one (the fish) I found quite thought provoking, but worked it out in the end - might have been quicker if I'd noticed the question mark in the top right hand corner which describes what you have to do! And it had an added twist at the end. At least I didn't have to skip any of the mini-games! There is no map, but the hint button takes you right to the point where you have something to do. The graphics aren't brilliantly sharp, but they fit with the atmosphere and aren't so bad you can't find stuff. I really enjoyed playing the game, and am off to buy it.
I almost didn't try this game because of the negative reviews, but I'm glad I did. I was drawn in from the first scene and couldn't understand why people were complaining about the graphics. Some were a little dark, but what would you expect in a spooky old house? The objects were fairly hidden in the HOS and were not impossible to find. The mini-games were quite interesting and required a little thought. The morphing objects were a nice surprise and weren't as hard to find as in other games. I played in casual mode and found the game quite enjoyable. I'm taking advantage of the 2 for 1 and bonus click Monday and will definitely buy this game. I want to find out what happens next and definitely want to find the treasure.
I read several bad reviews on this one and I don't get it. Not one to let others decide what appeals to me, I downloaded and played the trial. I really enjoyed it! I like it so much that I bought it! I really liked the v/o and the visuals. HOG was fun and didn't have me chasing all over the website (note to other game designers) The games were challenging. Yes, you have to open the inventory every time you need it. Big Whoop!!! It's not the hardest game I've ever played, but it is certainly worth a game credit. If you just want a fun game that challenges your skills without making you stressed and nuts, I highly recommend this one!
I'm puzzled at all the bad reviews - I'm loving this game! It is quirky and a bit convoluted, and seems like an indie game. It is creepy, sometimes startling, and has a compelling storyline that you uncover bit by bit. I would actually give it 4.5 stars, but rounded up on the fun factor. For me, it has too many HOS, though they are not particularly difficult - for the most part. But there are some items very hard to find, which made me quickly rethink my hardcore mode choice with no hints. It is also very linear, which I do not like. Nevertheless, there were enough outstanding features to make me still love it. It has morphing objects to find. The music is fantastic. The ambient sounds are very good - creepy, but not overdone. The puzzles are not original, but are well done, and have their own twists. A tad easy, but not enough to spoil the fun. And LOTS of adventuring to do. (Still, you will not wear out sneakers, since locations are fairly limited.) Everything has been pretty logical so far, no bizarre uses for things. I'm a great fan of story driven games, and this one is. You will not, however, understand the story from the beginning. The rather dreamlike opening cutscene asks more questions than it answers, and the story of long ago greed and doublecrossing is revealed in bits and pieces - not always in chronological order. This keeping me guessing is much of the fun! All in all, if you like a good story, don't mind HOS and linear play, you may find this one to be one of the most underrated games this year! At least give it a try! I hope to see many more from this Dev.
I had a lot of fun during the hour demo. Even though I'm not crazy about hidden object games like I used to be, I didn't mind the HOS. What I really enjoyed were the different puzzles that required some thinking instead of turning circles or putting a jigsaw puzzle together. I also loved the graphics, even though they were kind of old-style. If I had a complaint, it would be that my character talked to herself. I don't like that, but at least she didn't repeat herself if I clicked on the same thing again. I saw a good mix of indoor and outdoor scenes in my hour and I hope that continues. Keep checking your journal. It is very helpful! Off to buy. Audrey
You will enjoy this if you enjoy creative adventures without hand holding (yet there are choices for difficulty as well) and if you have a good imagination as I do; I am enjoying this unique little game immensely. Overall, this may be considered more of an old school adventure style HOG with heavier emphasis on adventure*; don't let the 'old school' part deter you from giving it a whirl! *[Due to the graphics and rather small/dark HOG, is the reason for categorizing it as old school], yet the game as a whole is right on target in theme and style and pure interest driven adventure, that this game can definitely hold it's own in comparing it to any of the well known games by devs with all the bells and whistles IMO. You will note that many fishies either love or hate this game... and the others fall in between; definitely give it a try and find out where you fall in that range. I really, really am enjoying it immensely. The poetic leads were great and overall concept a wonderful change of pace from the norm. Thumbs up!! : )
Bravo! Bravo! A diamond in the rough! Thank you for an awesome game! The challenge is perfect and a lot of fun as quality HO games were at one time before relying on eye candy. The voice overs fit like a glove into this well written and beautifully drawn mystery. Interesting story line draws gamer in and melodramatic music keeps gamer literally transfixed, wanting to continue further into solving the mystery that John T. Dawson could not solve and which, ultimately, drove him insane. I am wondering if his waiting 23 years to open the locked metal box was the beginning of his mental decline. :) Playing the game on hardcore and am pleasantly surprised to find it is not that easy. Plays like an adventure game with objects masterfully hidden from view. Congratulations to GIGANT. Hope to see more games in the near future. Maybe a prequel about Edward Smith and John T. Dawson? I can see this was a labor of love. Many thanks and much appreciation. Enjoy! -Mama Mia-
I live the fact that there is a hardcore mode. The HOS's are not as easy as one would think. The music and backround noises change up. which is refreshing. I am so going to buy this one!
Love the game! Story line, scenes music and everything else is just spot on. I find the game really intriguing and it really pulled me in!
Great graphics, good game play, and lots of interesting and challenging puzzles.
